I like this app

This app runs through all the steps in a cbt thought record. It helps me alot You can customize it to some extent Thank you for this app

Best CBT journal for iPhone, but could be better

A little clunky moving from screen to screen. CBTreferee is better for this, but this is more comprehensive for the whole process.

Works well but needs better design

This is the best CBT app for iPhone (Ive tried them all) but it could use the help of a graphic designer. iCBT needs to look at its target audience. People who require CBT often have ADD and other mood disorders like OCD. The UI is cluttered and prone to distract. Simplify the app and clean up the look and youll have something here worth pitching to all those CBT users out there. For five stars: More Apple like design. Support for iPhone 5 and iPod touch 4" screen. New icon please.

very useful

not perfect but very good and much easier than carrying around paper mood records

Helpful

I find this app helpful, particularly because it has all the cognitive distortions listed.

Good app

This is a good CBT app. I would add two things. 1. The opportunity to rate my beliefs in the negative and rational thoughts if I choose. 2. The opportunity to indicate an outcome such as "The presentation went over well" to keep a log of successes despite the negative thoughts. Good app!

Eh.

Lots of strikes against this very good idea: unattractive, no directions, cannot add other emotions, and just kinda clunky. Would love to see an overhaul. Its only a matter of time before someone will do this better.

Simple and effective

iCBT is an ingenuitive app which gives the user a practical cognitive behavioral therapy tool which can be used anywhere at anytime. Well worth the price and highly usuable are my impressions, having used this app for five days. Definitely a keeper!

Best Cognitive Therapy themed app available

Very useful and easy to use implementation of the CBT "Mood Log".

Cbt

This is very good for anyone that does cbt, it helps you get that irrational thought out of your thinking, very happy with this app!!:)

Your Thought Record on iPhone

This is the best CBT thought record apps that Ive tried for the iPhone. Only thing I would like is a lock function for the app. (Yes, I know I can just lock the iPhone, but an app-specific lock is preferable.). While I think one would need to know some CBT basics to use this app well, it certainly doesnt require expert knowledge. I have read most of Burns book, but I always forget some of the details when attempting a thought record. This app is great because it cues you as to what step to take next and also gives options (eg types of thinking errors) & definitions (eg what the names of the thinking error types indicate). Also, one of the best things is that the app "carries" the relevant personal info to the next step so that one doesnt have to keep going back because unable to remember exactly what, for example, the automatic thought was. Also, I like that is has some ability to customize (eg adding other mood states). One thing that I think could use improvement (yup, thought of another one) is if one could also view a list of completed thought records from the start of the app (or have a link to this list). I sometimes put too much in my records at the start and become tired or bored or frustrated before I finish -- not the best way to go! -- so it would be great to be able to see the completed ones (without having to guess), partly so I could email one to a treatment provider and partly to feel a sense of accomplishment with the completed ones. All in all, best CBT thought record app. Easy to use. Intuitive. Customizing abilities. Really overall excellent.

overpriced and not useful

Not very helpful at all. No guidance and requires a working knowledge of CBT. Ways too expensive for what it does.

Good App

Good if youre working with a therapist and dont like writing. You do need some understanding of cognitive therapy. And yup, needs a lock.

How??

Id thought this would at LEAST contain SOME type of instruction, etc. I have a blank page that wants input. How do I know what to write? With the one-what I assume is a "sample", (which would pertain in NO way to me, being bedridden 95% of the time), it gives examples &choices to make. Uhm, I make up my own choices? Exactly WHAT did my 3.99 buy except some confusion & regret?

Great. But needs a lock!

Love the app. Very helpful and Follows Burnss technique well. Needs a way to lock out friends borrowing your app who might tap thinking it is a game. Other than that, wonderful. Ill happily change to 5 stars if it was password protected.

At last! A convenient way to continue my therapy!

I have been thinking about this type of app ever since buying my iPhone! CBT and Burns has greatly helped with my GAD.

Great app!

I love this app. My biggest challenges with CBT were finding the time to do thought records and keeping them secure while I was at work. This app lets me do CBT anywhere, anytime without having to worry about someone finding my records. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is b/c I think the developers should make clear that you should be doing CBT with a therapist. I dont think its something you can learn on your own.

Fantastic!

I am a psychotherapist, and trained in CBT. This app is extraordinary! It is comprehensive, and is true to CBT methodology. The ability to email complete thought review is just icing on the cake.

Good but add something

"Having a low frustration tolerance" is a thinking error that needs added. Its basically telling yourself that something is intolerable when it is merely hard. "Jumping to conclusions" should probably be renamed "Catastrophizing". A good app despite these things.

iCBT is a great tool that psychologists can use with their clients

I have been reviewing iCBT for my mobile apps blog for psychologists for some times now, and I must admit that i am impressed. The iPhone application is very user friendly and I suspect the iPad version is even easier to navigate. From a clinical viewpoint, the app is appropriate for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and a host of other problems where cognitive distortions are a the core of the persons difficulties. This is a good tool for psychologists or other therapists using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in their practice. It allows clients to continue their therapy outside the clinic. In my opinion, it reinforces the gains obtained during sessions and facilitates generalization. This app is not a miracle cure! It is designed to make individuals work on their difficulties. It works best when the individual knows about CBT or when directly working with a therapist. In fact, this app is based on a popular book by Dr. David Burns (Feeling good handbook), which can be found in many book stores for approximately $15.00. When you first start the application you are automatically brought to the iCBT events page. This is where you can help your clients put their thoughts into words. An example is provided. It reads, "I said something negative about my boss to a coworker, now Im sure Ill get fired". Once you click on the event, a new page appears. The client is then able to label and rate the intensity of his or her feelings and write down negative thoughts. The rationalize button will bring up all the negative thoughts associated with the original event. Clicking on these will bring you to a final page, where the client will be prompted to go through a list of distortions such as, "A mental filter, blind to the positive, negative labelling etc.". A definition of each distortion is provided by pressing, "description".
